RESERVE DIVISION

The Clark County Sheriff’s Reserve Division is comprised of volunteers who are sworn officers empowered by the Sheriff of Clark County to help preserve law and order in the county.

The Reserve Division is directed by a command staff consisting of one lieutenant, and three squad sergeants.

To be a reserve deputy, and individual must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Indiana drivers license, have no criminal record (minor traffic violations are exempt), and be a resident of the State of Indiana. A potential reserve deputy must attend and pass our reserve academy. The training in the academy is provided by officers accredited and certified in particular areas of law enforcement as well as experts in fields related to and influenced by law enforcement.

Upon completion of the academy, the reserve officer is responsible for furnishing his or her own equipment and uniform before the field training starts. This consists of actual hands on training. After certification by the field officer and with the approval of the Command staff and the Sheriff, the reserve officer is considered a road qualified reserve deputy who is expected to perform the same duties with the same professionalism as a merit officer.

While the investment in time and effort on the part of a reserve officer is great, the benefits gained in self-image, enhanced ability to deal with diverse people and situations, and increased awareness of community are well worth the sacrifice.

The Clark County Reserve Division is invaluable to the operation of the department. The officers provide manpower when needed, assist on special details, and enhance the ability of the Sheriff’s Office to provide the best service possible to the citizens of Clark County. We are very proud of our reserve deputies.
